OneGoodCV – Helping People Build CVs That Get Interviews
🔍Problem
For years, friends, family, and even strangers kept asking me to help them write their CVs. These requests weren’t random. People genuinely needed support with their job applications.
The issues I observed: Many didn’t know what recruiters were looking for. Most CVs were generic and not tailored to specific roles. Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) filtered out strong candidates. Many believed they had to pay someone to write a CV.
I had developed a personal method that worked. People who used my approach landed interviews. But it wasn’t scalable.
🔬Research and Validation
To test the idea, I shared my own CV online. It got a strong positive response and opened the floodgates. People began reaching out and asking for help.
To validate: I manually wrote CVs for over five people each week. Many of them landed interviews and a few secured jobs. I engaged my audience on social media, asking if they would use a tool built around my method. The answer was yes. Some even supported me financially to build it.
There was clear demand, strong trust, and an obvious gap in the market.
🛠Solution: OneGoodCV
I built OneGoodCV, a free web app that teaches people how to write effective CVs using my method. The app combines education with execution.
Key features: A video course that breaks down my step-by-step CV writing process. A simple CV builder to apply what you learned immediately. Templates optimized for ATS and job-specific customization. One-click PDF export to begin applying.
The goal is simple. Teach people to write their own great CV once and never have to pay anyone again.
⚙️Execution
During this time, I: Built the MVP using React. Designed and recorded the full video course. Created a 30-day content plan for social launch. Designed flyers, posts, and branding assets. Built LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram pages. Created a short promo video. Ran a private beta with testers and implemented feedback.
I handled everything end-to-end and kept the product experience focused and clean.
🚀Launch Plan
Channels: Organic growth through LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter. Personal network and word-of-mouth. Content marketing built around CV education.
💡Key Learnings
People want to feel capable. With the right tools, they prefer to write their CVs themselves. Good product design means less confusion and more confidence. Content and community can build serious momentum even before launch. Feedback is critical. Early testers helped shape the final version.
📈Early Indicators
Although we haven’t launched yet: I receive daily messages asking for the release date. Beta testers provided useful suggestions and positive reviews. Social engagement has grown steadily through teaser content.
Post-launch, I’ll track: Number of CVs created. Course completion rates. User testimonials and success stories.
